It has been difficult to watch the systematic dismantling of education funding, including the blatant siphoning off of your tax dollars to underwrite the tuitions of already well-to-do students to private and religious schools.
The 2026 Legislative session has seen a flurry of bills introduced to further erode local towns' ability to control their school districts, while the legal responsibility of the State to provide funding is blatantly ignored. This historic assault on public education is in fact an assault on Democracy itself.
The influence of the Free State Project on our legislature cannot be overstated. Their self-professed goal is to destroy our government and institutions for the purposes of creating a utopian society, and to ultimately secede from the United States. Sadly, Carroll county has several Representatives who are either members of The Project, or sympathetic to their goals. While they are doomed to failure in the end, significant damage is already being done to our State.

The latest fascination with bringing nuclear power back to the state ignores serious long term effects in exchange for offering a quick-fix solution

Affordable housing will not spring up on its own accord. A vibrant state economy depends on stable housing for everyone, not just real estate investors and wealthy weekend property owners. Without effective legislative efforts, the average worker will be priced out of the state they grew up in, with some forced into homelessness.
